Janet Milliken, Assistant Principal
I am happy to serve the Florence Sawyer School as Assistant Principal. Although I have an office at the Emerson wing, I travel back and forth between the two buildings many times during each day. My area of focus is primarily grades pre-k to grade 4. However as a member of the administrative team, I frequently meet with my colleagues during administrative team meetings and staff meetings, and contribute to decisions that impact the entire pre-k to grade 8 community.
My career started as a classroom teacher, then evolved to reading specialist, then half time administrator and now full time assistant principal.
My education includes a B.S. degree from the University of Tampa, M.Ed. degree from the University of Maine with a concentration in reading and another M.Ed. degree from Salem State College with a concentration in administration.
I continue to have a special interest in reading and with the reading teachers and a parent volunteer help facilitate the Junior Great Books program and with the support of the library staff, the Accelerated Reader Program.
I also serve on district task force committees, Standards Based Reporting and Professional Development. I enjoy my constant contact with students, faculty and parents.
