Extended Learning and Middle school enrichment

Each of our elementary schools in Bolton, Stow, and Lancaster offer a before school and after school program for students in K - 5.

We believe and follow a similar philosophy to the Responsive Classroom that "Children's developmental needs should be the foundation for every choice we make in the Extended Learning Program."1

To provide diverse enrichment opportunities that expand the social, physical, creative and intellectual growth of our students through school, community and family collaborations.

Need to add a day? Occasionally, the need arises to add a day to your child's schedule. Add days are an option for all registered participants. The process is as follows:  Complete and submit the Change of Schedule/Add Day on-line form, notify your child's school secretary, and send an email to your Site Coordinator 48 hours in advance of the requested drop-in day.   This process applies to both the AM and PM programs.  The cost to add a day for the AM program is $7.00; for the PM program the cost is $38.25.

The Extended Learning Program is open at all locations from 12:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. on district half days. The yearly tuition is divided into ten monthly payments (August 28th-May 28th). Monthly tuition payments are due one month in advance on or before the 28th of each month. There is a non-refundable $35.00 registration fee due with the first monthly payment. All payments received after the 28th will be assessed a $15.00 late fee. The first monthly payment is due August 28th and the last monthly payment is due May 28th. Extra charges such as add days, late pickups, and enrichment activities will appear on the monthly billing statement for your convenience.

The Extended Learning Program respects the environment and in an effort to conserve paper all monthly invoices can be viewed on MySchoolBucks.com. All newsletters, parent letters and parent correspondence are emailed. Therefore it is important that parent emails are current and correct. Please email lbotko@nrsd.net if there are changes to your email address.
We understand the financial difficulty imposed by having several children in the program, and offer a 10% sibling discount per child after the first. We accept a limited amount of vouchers for families that qualify. Please email Leah Botko at lbotko@nrsd.net for additional information regarding vouchers.

All children must be picked up by 6:00 P.M. After 6:00 P.M. accounts will be charged $1.00 for each minute after 6:00 P.M. Excessive lateness (more than four late pickups) will result in termination from the program.

If your child is going to be picked up by someone other than a parent, the following steps must be followed:

1) an email must be sent to your Site Coordinator stating the person's name and permission for him/her to pick up your child

2) this individual will also be required to show a valid ID upon pickup

3) all listed pickup individuals must be at least 18 years of age

To ensure the safety of our children there will be no exceptions to this protocol.

The Extended Learning Program has revised its Behavior Policy to reflect the Responsive Classroom model. "The Responsive Classroom is an approach to elementary teaching that emphasizes social, emotional, and academic growth in a strong and safe school community. The approach consists of classroom and school-wide practices for deliberately helping children build academic and social-emotional competencies."1

The five most important skills in the Responsive Classroom model include Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self Respect....C.A.R.E.S. These five skills are reinforced throughout the morning and afternoon in every activity our students enjoy. Additional information can be found on the Responsive Classroom website.

The Extended Learning Program supports a safe environment for all students. Students who cannot maintain personal and social boundaries and jeopardize the safety of other students will be temporarily suspended from the program for a time period determined by the Program Coordinator. Students who continuously jeopardize student safety may be expelled from the program by the Program Coordinator.

NOTE: All Extended Learning Program students must be completely toileting proficient to attend.
